Rather old than new

 THE NEED FOR SPEED

I will ask you a question. How many times you have walked past shop display or browse a website and think to yourself uhhh i could just do with this. It is so much better than the one i have at the moment. Lets talk cameras and i am fortunate enough to be able to use the Canon EOS 5D mark 4 at the moment but many people are not. It is not about the latest gear. Trust me. This is going to sound so cliche but you do not need the latest gear and i am talking from my own experience. When i migrated to CANON i have started with the 5D mark 2 and it was a massive step forward for me. I was going from four thirds format to Full Frame and the reason i have changed the camera was that my Olympus was going extremely slow and half of the photos have been damaged due to some software issue within the camera. So the upgrade was necessity in my case. And yes i did get more speed but also more money spent as everything i have had for my Olympus i could not use on my new Canon.

ANOTHER UPGRADE

After 6 years with my Canon i have updated and it was purely because i have found a great deal and i could. So i sold my 5Dmk 2 and went to 5Dmk 4 and let me tell you that was where i stop updating. I have had collected enough lenses i could use over the years so i was kind of sorted and still am. Apart from better Dynamic Range and higher resolution not sure in what i do if i have actually spotted massive difference so that is where i thought to myself that it is time to stop updating.

STEP BACKWARDS

Using the latest to its not full potential had me thinking. Why do we all get so crazy about the latest and greatest. I am photographer. Well yes if you trying to do videography and you need to keep up to date because of the video requirements and the work you do then fair enough get yourself a decent video capability on your camera but I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER !!!

I do not need all these new things and you ask yourself. DO I ? most likely the answer is No you do not.

As a fan of 5D line from Canon in 2018 i have added to my camera collection another camera body. This time i have decided to go backwards and bought myself the first version of the 5D series. The 5D CLASSIC the camera that was so revolutionary when it comes out in 2005. Yes you reading right In the year 2018 i have purchased used camera from the year 2005. And what a step forward that was for me... Yes third of the Megapixels much less autofocusing points, lower ISO Live view non existent, this camera also does not record video and touch screen well what is that ? 1 section of setting menu. In my Photography journey this small step back in time was actually huge step forward.

I am a photographer once again. Mostly in manual mode not be able to count on the camera that automatically sets the correct everything for you this was the time when it was again all about me. So even though for work and where i need  the resolution and dynamic range i do use the new camera but for everything else for my own personal use the old gear and manual mode.

So next time you thinking of upgrading  just ask yourself a question. DO I REALLY NEED IT ? I bet most of the time the answer is going to be NO. The companies are developing the new gadgets the new things the new everything constantly only because there is lot of people that would buy it. Do not be one of them next time. Just Think. i am getting backwards ever since i got the old camera and up to now gathered almost 60 old film cameras i am using more and more. Yes FILM cameras you reading it correctly.

I hope you did enjoyed these few words again and i am going to think of my next post. I may dig into film photography :)
